I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in a store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge will award to me on that day – and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.
~II Timothy 4:7-8

Our beloved mother, Eula Mae Combs Wright, was born March 23, 1932 in Bienville Parish Louisiana to the late Solomon and Louise Combs, the 7th of 9 children. Eula attended the public schools in Bienville Parish where she was an outstanding student, and she graduated from Shady Grove High School. Continuing her education at Grambling College, she received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary and Secondary Education. Later, she pursued graduate studies in education at Louisiana Tech University.

While attending Grambling College, Eula met the love of her life, David Wright. They knew they were soulmates, and, on February 12, 1955, they were married. To this union, three beautiful children were born.

Eula began her career in education serving in the Lincoln Parish School system, teaching both elementary and junior high school students in Ruston, Louisiana. Her students excelled and she was well loved by them, her colleagues, and peers. Eula chose to retire early from the public school systems, but even in retirement, she was still a teacher who touched and positively influenced countless children and young adults.

Anyone who knew her knew that Eula never met a stranger. She loved people; her wit, along with her kind and loving manner, endeared her to many. Eula was a wonderful cook and received great pleasure watching the response of people enjoying her food. So, in honor of her sister Fannie, Eula and David successfully re-opened the Blue Light Café in Ruston, Louisiana for many years, until its closing after David’s death in 2010.

Eula accepted Christ at an early age. She was a faithful member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Grambling, Louisiana. She served as a Sunday School teacher, in women’s mission, as a deaconess, in the choir, and on various other committees. She loved the Lord and faithfully served Him until her death.

She was active in numerous professional, civic, and social organizations, including life membership in the Grambling State University National Alumni Association, the Retired Teachers Association, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Epsilon Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

On April 5, 2021, Eula passed away peacefully in Keller, Texas. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, David Wright; one son, David Wright II; her parents and her siblings; three sisters, Juanita Davis, Fannie Rushing, and Mary Harris; and five brothers – Virgil Combs, Wylie Combs, Jessie Combs, Willie Combs, and Arthur Combs.
